Longfellow District-Wide

45-15 Elementary School

First Grade

In first grade, your student will be encouraged to continue developing academically, socially, and emotionally. Throughout the year, they will develop a variety of new skills and gain rich experiences in the classroom. Technology is integrated into the classroom to further enhance learning experiences for your student. Not only will your student be receiving thoughtful curriculum aligned with local, state, and national standards, but your student's age, current skill level, personality, interest, and learning style are also among the considerations when planning learning experiences.

Here are some of the skills and topics your student will experience this year:

  • Language Arts (comprehension, reading foundations, media literacy, and language)
  • Math (numbers and operations, algebra, geometry and measurement, and motion)
  • Science (nature of science, weather, collecting and examining life)
  • Social Studies (citizenship and government, economics, geography, and history)
  • Heath (safety, growth and development, disease control and prevention, and interpersonal skills)
  • Art (recognition of shapes, color, space, and variety of mediums)
  • Music (singing, moving, rhythm, and performance behavior)
  • Physical Education (teamwork, movements, manipulation skills, directions, positive self-image, sportsmanship, and listening skills)
  • Technology (simple document work, learning with software, presentation skills, and research)
  • Media Center (research, electronic and print media, and appropriate use of technology)
